How To Deck Out Your Child’s Room In Their Favorite Colors
Children love color and using their favorite color is an easy way to build a color theme for their bedroom space. Not only will the room be appealing to them, it will make them feel like the space was personally designed for them.
Colors that are Conventional
If your child enjoys friendly conventional colors like yellow, blue or green, it will not be hard to imagine the walls painted in an appropriate hue of that color. Even if the favorite may be too dark for all the walls in the room, you can choose a lighter shade and then add accents in the bolder hue. For illustration, if your son is crazy about the color royal blue, like many boys, you can use a cool denim blue to the walls and add white for the trim. You can then bring in some royal blue bedding accents and bedding against this crisp palette.
You can even outline the edges of a bookshelf, chair rail, use painted metal wall art or tropical wall art in the brighter blue and balance it with other bright colors like grassy green, red or bright yellow. Stencils, wall decals, accents and usable items like toys, games and wall hooks can be used to repeat the bold colors against your more subdued backdrop.
When the Favorite Color is Black?
You may feel an initial sense of panic when your child announces that his favorite color is black or your daughter wants to use a shocking shade of purple. You can produce some coordinated and very interested looks in the bedroom by utilizing the favorite color as an accent. Your beginning step is to decide where the color inspiration is coming from for your child. For instance, your son may really be drawn to a football team that uses black in its team colors. In this case, you can use a neutral white for the walls and use the black and other colors to accent the area. Of course, in this case, using the team logo and an overall football theme will make your son extremely happy.
The bright purple may be inspired by clothing that your daughter’s favorite celebrity wore, or the sweater that came on her favorite doll. Again, you now have a theme to build upon that includes the color and the inspiration.
Mixing a bold color, such as bright purple, with more sedate colors – like gray, pale blue, cream and pale pink – will neutralize its effect. Bring these other colors into the mix as accents and through patterns and designs in fabrics and other accessories.
Bold Color Accents
Don’t be afraid to use bold color in a child’s or teen’s bedroom. Starting with white or pale neutral walls, bold juicy colors like orange-aide, lime green and grape can be used as color accents in throw pillows, floor pillows, desk accessories, metal wall sculpture and accessories. Mix the colors in fresh modern designed fabrics and accessories. The biggest benefit of using this approach is that you can easily alter the accessories and accents when your child gets a little older and chooses a new favorite color.
